This week saw Cheeky Chap enter year one. He was incredibly excited to be going up to the big school after two years in a separate building while in nursery and reception. We spent a week or so trying to prepare him as we had been told it was a big jump up to year one. Year one is really the start of formal education, reception is still mainly learning through playing. Year one gets homework and they learn to write cursive. Year one is stricter and you don’t earn the headteacher award as easily. After two days the biggest complaint about being in year one is that there is not a lot of playing and too much writing.
Hopefully he will get used to it soon!

Aw, hope he settles in to the ‘more writing’ soon.
At N’s school they have Y1 split, so most go up to be in a class with Y2, but the ones who need to have another year of play based learning/struggling or are really young for the year, stay in the class with reception for the year.

That’s an interesting way to do it. I do think most of the children will adapt to Y1 quickly, hopefully!

Bless him! What a cute picture. I’m sure they still have time for a fair amount of fun in year 1 and I hope he gets used to it soon!

I do hope he still likes school once he’s settled in and has lots of fun, they should still have fun in primary school.

I love that comment…less playing and more writing. I hope he settles in quickly
Thank you for linking up

Thankfully they are all in the same classes as last year so settling in shouldn’t be a problem, just getting used to the more work might be!
Gorgeous photo, I hope he is always this keen to work.

So do I. His BFF is quite academic and likes working so I hope he proves a good influence.
This is so cute – I hope he is loving school before you know it 🙂 #mysundayphoto

Me too, I am sure he will get used to it soon enough.
Aww bless him, the too much writing must be the biggest transition to deal with at that stage. Hope its a very fun year though 🙂
I hope he still loves school! I was just a bit surprised that they haven’t eased them in, thrown them right in!
he certainly looks like he’s enjoying the writing, however much there is of it
I think the novelty wore off pretty quickly to be honest!
My son started year 1 too! There was a sign on the door of their classroom that said no toys from home and then it hit me this is it! This is serious learning and when I saw photos of them in the website yes its for real now. I am so excited & nervous! #mysundayphoto

They weren’t allowed to take toys from home into reception but yes, it’s definitely a big change, they’ve thrown them straight into at Cheeky Chap’s school!
Aww! It’s such a big change for them isn’t it! I hope he gets used to it soon x

I’m sure he will, he’s pretty adaptable. x
He looks so grown up. I hope he gets on ok. I still have a few years to go before Freya starts school but I already think I will be far worse at coping than she will. Maybe I need to start preparing myself now! #MySundayPhoto

The husband and I do feel he just suddenly grew up more over the summer. I don’t think it matters how early you try to prepare yourself, you’re never really ready for them to start.

Bless! I am going to be an emotional wreck once my twins start. They go to preschool this week (a new one) and I am already nervous! Lovely photograph xx
I can imagine it’s a big change if they are used to lots of playing- hope it gets a bit more fun for him soon! 😉 x
Aww bless, I hope it’s going well x
