My Sunday Photo

This week saw Cheeky Chap enter year one. He was incredibly excited to be going up to the big school after two years in a separate building while in nursery and reception. We spent a week or so trying to prepare him as we had been told it was a big jump up to year one. Year one is really the start of formal education, reception is still mainly learning through playing. Year one gets homework and they learn to write cursive. Year one is stricter and you don’t earn the headteacher award as easily. After two days the biggest complaint about being in year one is that there is not a lot of playing and too much writing.

Hopefully he will get used to it soon!

  1. Aw, hope he settles in to the ‘more writing’ soon.

At N’s school they have Y1 split, so most go up to be in a class with Y2, but the ones who need to have another year of play based learning/struggling or are really young for the year, stay in the class with reception for the year.

  2. He looks so grown up. I hope he gets on ok. I still have a few years to go before Freya starts school but I already think I will be far worse at coping than she will. Maybe I need to start preparing myself now! #MySundayPhoto
