Climbing {The Ordinary Moments}

Cheeky Chap is utterly fearless.

He may lack confidence in many areas but climbing and exploring is not one of them.

The thing is, he is small for his age so whenever he is climbing, there is inevitably an adult nearby looking for me. Try as I might, I never seem to be able to convince complete strangers that I know my child well enough to know he is more than capable.

For example, he has been walking on the top of this tunnel since he was two years old.

He has been climbing this particular piece of equipment since he was 2.5 years old, getting all the way to the top. And now he likes to hang off, holding with just one hand. I’m sure it won’t be long before he attempts no hands!

This tree has been a climbing frame since he was three years old.

And his latest trick is to climb the doorways in the house.

Amazingly, we have never had to take him to hospital for a climbing related accident.

I always assumed that this was just part and parcel of having a boy (and yes, I know that’s very stereotypical of me). But it turns out that there aren’t actually that many other boys we know that are quite as fearless as Cheeky Chap. One of these days I will get round to taking him to a local indoor climbing club which I am sure he will love.

  1. Oh wow thats impressive climbing doorways! Perhaps try rock climbing? You can go to indoor rock climbing and he will be strapped up safetly. I bet he would love it.

  2. I think boys are a LOT more fearless than girls! Stacey never attempted to climb anywhere when she was little, yet Oscar is always on top of something. Little monkey!!
